German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will play again, at home to a struggling Granada side. His last game was on 12th November against Alaves, also at home, which ended in a hard-fought 2-1 win.
The goalkeeper's main objective was to be ready for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Napoli, but in the end he has managed to shorten the recovery period and will be at Xavi's disposal from Sunday onwards. This is a huge boost for a team that is conceding too many goals this season.
In his absence, Inaki Pena has not been up to the task of being the first-choice goalkeeper for FC Barcelona, although he is not the only one who has failed. The 'Cules' defence this year has conceded 30 goals so far in La Liga, which is well above the 20 conceded last season after 38 games played.
On the other hand, Ter Stegen's return also means he faces the challenge of battling with Manuel Neuer to see who wins the starting berth at next summer's European Championship. The Bayern goalkeeper is showing a good level in Germany and the battle will not be easy to win.
