Two months ago, the newspaper ‘Marca’ revealed that Real Madrid had already planned to sign Alphonso Davies on 2nd January. A couple of weeks later when the Bayern Munich full-back was supposed to put pen to paper, the Spanish daily reports the intriguing story of why he has not done so and how the Allianz Arena are manoeuvring to keep him in the Bundesliga.
The defender's legal team has been working in collaboration with Spanish counterparts to formulate the deal he would sign with Real Madrid. From within the Santiago Bernabeu, optimism is in the air. Florentino Perez's board has told the player that he has to do the same as Kylian Mbappe, whose contract at Paris Saint-Germain, where he had a clause to renew for one more season and did not activate it, expired.
From the Bavarian offices, a proposal has been put on the table for him to endorse his commitment to Vincent Kompany's project. If he accepts, he would become the second highest paid player in the squad behind Harry Kane. This financial boost would mean overtaking, financially, big names such as Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Müller and Leon Goretzka.
At Real Madrid, he would earn less, although it should be borne in mind that, if he joins as a free agent this summer, he will be able to receive a signing-on bonus and a bonus for his agent. On the purely sporting front, the move also looks attractive. Carlo Ancelotti has been managing defensive departures since the start of the season and the Canadian would arrive with a clear starter's tag.
