L'Equipe reports that Chicago Fire contacted Neymar's entourage and Al Hilal about a possible move for Neymar. The Saudis are willing to let him leave despite paying €80m for him to PSG in the summer of 2023. The main obstacle to his landing in MLS is that his father wants him to be paid more than Leo Messi at Inter Miami.

In 2024 Chicago Fire finished bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference. The board is now looking for a coup to move away from the poor results suffered last season and, according to ‘L'Equipe’, is negotiating with Al-Hilal and Neymar's father to sign the Brazilian player this January.
The timing makes sense because Major League Soccer kicks off in mid-February. If the former Paris Saint-Germain man were to move to the United States soon, he would have plenty of time to adapt to the squad and his routines in the city before officially taking the field against Columbus Crew. Prior to that, however, there are several friendlies scheduled that are likely to generate huge anticipation.
The newspaper mentioned in the first paragraph explains that the main obstacle for this operation to take place is that the winger's father wants him to earn more than Leo Messi. From Illinois, they are willing to assign him a titanic salary, but they are not so sure if they will be able to assume such a forceful demand.
Al-Hilal would be happy to say goodbye to Neymar even if he has six months left on his contract. They do not rule out compensating him financially to terminate his contract. Since his arrival in Saudi Arabia in August 2023, for which PSG paid 80 million euros, he has only taken the field seven times, as he broke his ACL and meniscus shortly after landing.
