Kylian Mbappe's decision to not join France during the international break has been met with plently of criticism from the media. The Real Madrid star has been accused of lacking respect for his country after reports confirmed his intention to only play 'important games' as a means to increase his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or next year.
Nevertheless, Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano has jumped in to back his French copatriot, who he believes is not being recognised for his achievement with 'Les Bleus'. "We can't forget what Kylian has done for this national team," said Upamecano. "He needs out support."
"There are so many games. We are human beings and mental health affect us too," he added. "He is an incredible player, a friend also. I know what he is capable of. I hope he returns soon because he is so important for the team. I hope he comes back to take the armband. We shouldn't forget that he's our captain."
The player's words came during the press conference ahead of France's game in the Nations League on Thursday. Kolo Muani is set to lead the attack, as he has done during the October international break, which Mbappe missed as well.
