Ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel tried to sign Kalidou Koulibaly when he was manager at Paris Saint-Germain. The player recounted how the first sniff of a transfer was after the Champions League game between Napoli and the French side a few seasons back.

Last summer, Koulibaly became one of Chelsea's biggest signings. The player exchanged Napoli for the Premier League to strengthen up the London side's defence.
Getting him in was thanks to some arduous work from Thomas Tuchel. In fact, the German manager already wanted him when he was at Paris Saint-Germain a few seasons ago.
"I had the chance of playing against him when he was at PSG. There was a Napoli-PSG which ended in a draw. After the game we spoke, and he congratulated me. He said I was a great player", the player started to explain in an interview with 'BeIN Sport'.
"Afterwards, he tried to sign me. It didn't happen, but it did at Chelsea. I was really enthusiastic and happy to work with him. It's a shame that it didn't last that long, but he was very important in getting me to the side and I've got to thank him for that", he concluded.
Since arriving in London, the Senegalese footballer has played a total of 21 games in all competitions. What's more, he has got off the mark in terms of goals, too, with two to date in the English top flight.
