Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed on Sunday that Luciano Spalletti will not be Napoli coach next season.
"Spalletti has been a great coach, he is a free man, he did his part, I thank him for that and now it is right that he continues to do what he wants," he said on the 'Che Tempo' programme on the 'RaiTre' channel this evening.
"Coaches are divided between those who want to do the transfer market and those who coach. He coaches, we gave him an extraordinary raw material and he made it grow," he added.
After several weeks of rumours about the coach's departure, it was the president himself who explained the reasons for his departure.
"Spalletti is a free man. After 50 years in the cinema and many exclusives, when someone comes to you and says: 'I've given my best, but one stage of my life is over, I still have a contract with you, but I'd prefer to have a sabbatical year'. What do you do, do you object? You have to be generous in life, I never expect anything in return. He delivered, I thank him and now it's up to him to continue doing what he wants to do", said the president.
