Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for Real Madrid against Atalanta on matchday 6 of the Champions League, but his game came to an early end when he was substituted off with an injury. "Mbappe has some discomfort in his hamstrings. It doesn't seem serious but we'll see tomorrow," said Real coach Carlo Ancelotti after Tuesday's match. "He couldn't sprint, it hurt him a bit and we thought it best to replace him."
The discomfort on his thigh is now been confirmed to be an injury following a medical report released by the club this afternoon. "Following tests carried out on Kylian Mbappe today by the Real Madrid medical department, the player has been diagnosed with a thigh injury in his left leg. His progress will be monitored," a statement from Real Madrid reads.
According to 'COPE' and 'Onda Cero', Mbappe is set to face approximately ten days on the sidelines to fully recover from the blow, which would put him in serious doubt for the 'Los Blancos' Intercontinental Cup clash between the winner of Pachuca-Al Ahly on December 18.
The 25-year-old Frenchman has scored 12 goals across all competitions for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season. Having started him in 22 matches so far in the campaign, the Italian manager is not used to rotating Mbappe and will have to find a solution for the upcoming Liga fixture against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.
