Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is always critical of UEFA, said on Wednesday that he had told Real Madrid boss Florentino Perez that the Super League idea was "wrong" because the most important thing was still the domestic leagues.
The Napoli chief revealed that he met with Florentino Perez in Alicante a few months ago and explained his position on the Super League project.
"I have never defended the Super League, I have fought for the democratic nature of football and the freedom of the market. When I met Florentino Perez in Alicante, I told him that he had the merit to create a trigger with the Super League," he told reporters.
"Florentino already has the ruling of the Court of the European Union that opens new competitions, and now a competition is being studied that starts from 5 billion in revenue and could reach up to 100 billion in revenue."
De Laurentiis went on to add: "However, I told him that the idea of the Super League is wrong, that we have to think of a parallel league. And that if you think of it as a monopoly, it is undemocratic. The domestic leagues have priority over everything, even the national team, because it respects the fans," he concluded.
