However, one of the images that made headlines in the American press after the match was that of Mitja Ilenic, the New York City full-back who, after scoring the opening goal in the first half, hit the Cristiano Ronaldo celebration right next to his teammates.
The young Slovenian defender said after the match that he is a big fan of the Portuguese and that his dream was to do the iconic 'Siuuuuu' in front of Leo Messi, who was upset after the end of the match with the referee in what was not his best night.
"I'm a big fan of Cristiano to be honest. That was basically my dream to do it in front of Messi," said the New York City defender.
