New stage for Emiliano Buendía. The Argentinian playmaker, player owned by Aston Villa, has moved to German football to play for Bayer Leverkusen, where he will play until the end of the season on loan.
"Bayer 04 have reacted to the long-term injury to Martin Terrier by signing Emiliano Buendia on loan from Aston Villa. The deal for the 28-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder runs until the end of the current season on 30 June 2025," stated Bayer Leverkusen.
In the last few days, rumours had been circulating that the player was very close to Alonso's team. Finally, the operation was closed on Wednesday just a few hours before the start of the last day of the Champions League Phase.
Before leaving Emi Buendía, Aston Villa announced his renewal. However, Bayer Leverkusen have an option to buy the player for 17 million. The Argentinian playmaker joined the Villans in 2021 from Norwich City for 34 million euros.
Buendía's time at Villa has been bumpy due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him sidelined for almost a year. Despite this, the Argentine has played 97 games for the Birmingham side, scoring 10 goals and providing 9 assists.
At Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso will replace Martin Terrier, who suffered an Achilles tendon injury and will miss the remainder of the season.
