Robin van Persie is set to make his managerial debut in the Champions League just over a week after he was appointed as new Feyenoord head coach. His side will host Inter Milan at the Stadion Fejenoord on Wednesday in the first leg of the last 16 tie.
"I can't wait, it is going to be my first time in the Champions League as manager," the former Manchester United and Arsenal told reporters on the eve of the clash. "My players are in good shape, they're ready."
But the Dutchman was also wary of his Italian opponents during his pre-match press conference as he added: "They have only conceded once in the Champions League. They defend well but are also strong in attack. We will need to defend carefully and be brave."
Van Persie concluded his time with the media as he spoke on Paixao, one of Feyenoord's most exciting talents. He said: "He can still grow, but he has great potential both physically and mentally. He is willing to learn and that's what you need to do to reach the top levels. I hope he will stay with us for now."
