Erik ten Hag claimed that "the best team doesn't always win" following Manchester Untied's 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium against West Ham. The hosts were awarded a late controversial penalty after VAR intervention deemed that De Ligt's challenge on Danny Ings was to be sanctioned.
The Dutchman spoke in the post-match press conference, calling out VAR's inconsistency throughout the season. "What isn't clear and obvious is how VAR worked, how they run their processes," the Ten Hag. The former Ajax boss also mentioned that VAR has not been up to the standards that were discusses in pre-season.
"Before the season, VAR explained how they works and run processes. They said that they would only interefere when it is clear and obvious" says the manager. Ten Hag has further hinted at how the referee's decision angered him even more due to it reminding him of the situation that happened against Spurs in matchday six,
"Three times this season we feel injustice. Unfair and unjust the way we conceded the penalty,” Ten Hag explained. “I spoke with the officials but decision is made. There’s no way back. It has a big impact on our team and on our scores and where we are in the table”, he told BBC.
