UEFA has confirmed that Turpin will take charge of the first leg on Tuesday, 4th March (21.00 CET), with fellow Jerome Brisard as the VAR official. The refereeing team will also include Willy Delajod as VAR assistant, Nicolas Danos and Benjamin Pages as assistant referees, and Mathieu Vernice as the fourth official.
The 42-year-old referee was also in charge of the first leg of the previous knockout round between Manchester City and Real Madrid on 11th February, a game in which Los Blancos secured a 3-2 victory before sealing qualification with a 3-1 win in the second leg at the Bernabeu.
Turpin has officiated Real Madrid on six other occasions, with a record of five wins and one draw. Notably, he refereed their 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the 2021-22 Champions League final and the 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in last season's semi-final first leg in Munich.
His other matches involving Real Madrid include a 4-0 home win against Ludogorets (2014-15), a 2-0 away win at Roma (2018-19), a 3-2 home victory over Inter Milan (2020-21), and a 3-1 quarter-final first-leg win at Chelsea (2021-22).
Turpin has also officiated Atletico Madrid four times in the Champions League, all in the group stage. His most recent appointment was a 2-2 home draw against Bayer Leverkusen (2022-23). He also refereed their 3-1 away win at Porto (2021-22), a 1-1 home draw with Bayern Munich (2020-21), and a 1-0 defeat away to the German side (2016-17).
Additionally, the Frenchman officiated Atletico’s 1-1 draw at Arsenal in the first leg of the 2017-18 Europa League semi-finals—a campaign that saw Diego Simeone's side go on to lift the trophy after beating Marseille 3-0 in the final.
His first match involving Atletico came in 2011 when he refereed their 2-0 home win over Vitoria de Guimaraes in the Europa League qualifiers.
