Torino will be without their main striker Duvan Zapata for the rest of the season. The Colombian was taken off the pitch at the 84th minute of the Serie A clash against Inter Milan on Saturday, as he suffered an ACL injury following an attempt to dribble past Matteo Darmian.
Diagnosis from the Torino medical staff revealed that he has torn the anterior cruciate ligament, medial meniscus and lateral meniscus of his left knee, which will see Zapata sidelined for at least eight months. The Italian side showed support for their player with an open letter dedicated to him, which was posted on their official social media accounts on Monday.
"Dear Duvan, not long ago you joined the 'Granata' family with the enthusiasm of a young kid," the message from Torino began. "You only needed a couple of matches to win over the hearts of your new club and fans. Your celebration has quickly become a symbol of unity amongst 'Granata' fans. We wil be supporting you during this difficult time. We will try to give back to you what you managed to give us each Sunday. We are all here waiting for you captain, you are one of us".
Duvan Zapata was in red-hot form before the injury at the Giuseppe Meazza, scoring four goals in seven matches for Torino. The 33-year-old joined the club last summer after spending six seasons at Atalanta. In the previous season he registered 16G/A from 36 appearances.
