Ruben Amorim has had a rough start to life at Manchester United, losing five of his first ten matches at the helm. The latest came on Boxing Day as United were defeated - for a third consecutive time in all competitions - 2-0 by Wolves at the Molineux. Nevertheless, former Red Devils Cristiano Ronaldo has backed his Portuguese compatriot to survive the ongoing crisis at the club.
"He did a fantastic job in Portugal with my Sporting," the 39-year-old said on Friday at the Globe Soccer Awards. "But as I said before, the Premier League is a different beast. It's a different league. It's the most competitive league in the world. It will be tough. The storm will continue but the storm will finish, and the sun will rise". Despite a bittersweet send-off, Ronaldo insisted that he wants to see his former side back at the top. "Fingers crossed that things will be good with him and I hope the best for Manchester United because this is a club that I still love".
Speaking on Man United's struggles, the Al Nassr forward stressed that managers are not to be blamed for the club's downfall. "They need, I said this one year and a half ago, and I will continue to say it: The problem is not the coaches, it's like... I always give this example... it's like an aquarium. If you have the fish inside and he's sick and you take him out and you fix the problem and you put him again in an aquarium you will be sick again. The problem of Manchester United is the same. The problem is not always the coach. It's much more than that," he added.
Asked if the situation at Man United is the same as when he left, the Portuguese star replied: "100 per cent. If I were the owner of the club I would make things clear and adjust what I think is bad there". Ronaldo concluded as he dropped a big hint of his plans post-retirement. "I'm still very young, I have so many plans and dreams ahead. Mark my words I will be the owner of a big club, for sure."
