Real Madrid suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Super Cup. The 'Merengue' coach, Carlo Ancelotti, appeared in the press room and assessed the resounding 2-5 defeat.
“We have to look at the reality and that is that they have scored very easily and we have not been able to work collectively or individually because we have lost many duels, but this is football. We are sad and disappointed and it is the sadness of our fans, but we have to look ahead because there is another challenge ahead. We have to get back on track,” he began.
The Italian only praised one player: Kylian Mbappe: “I'm not saving anything, except for Mbappe's game. He made some very good moves and scored a goal. We have to forget the rest to move forward. We defended poorly in high pressing and in low blocks. At halftime, we talked about trying to play football. You can lose, but not like in the first half.
“I don't want to name anyone. I'm talking about the team and we haven't defended well in midfield and we haven't been solid. We have to defend better,” he nodded.
On a possible comeback: “The match was not good from the first minute. When we were one up we were unable to find solutions. I'm sad about the whole game.
Finally, Ancelotti acknowledged the defensive weakness: “I said it before and we had to defend well and we defended badly. They defended better than us”.
