Raul Asencio could receive his first Spain call-up after Aymeric Laporte suffered an injury in Al Nassr's 2-0 win at Al Wehda on Tuesday. Although the extent of the former City defender's injury is yet to be outlined, reports inform that he is unlikely to be available for the upcoming March internationals.
Laporte's exclusion leaves a spot for the Real Madrid youngster in the Spain national team, who face the Netherlands in the Nations League quarter-finals, after he put up some impressive performances, in particular when holding off Erling Haaland in the Champions League tie against Man City.
With the likes of Pau Cubarsi, Robin Le Normand and Dani Vivian starting for 'La Roja', Asencio could come in to complete the defensive department. Spain Under 21 head coach Santi Denia has already selected the 22-year-old should he not be called up to the senior team next month.
Asencio has demonstrated that he can play at high levels and after registering 25 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti's 'Los Blancos' this season, he is one of the main candidates for a spot in Luis de la Fuente's side.
