Spurs are back to Europa League action following their infamous 0-4 victory over Manchester City on Saturday as they host Roma at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Postecoglou's men will look to continue their positive return from the international break against the Italians, whom they faced in only three past occasions. Two of those encounters have gone in favour of the 'Giallorossi' (1-4 in 2018 and 0-1 in 2022), while Tottenham claimed victory in their first ever meeting in 2017 (2-3).
The two side sit in very different position in the Europa League standings ahead of their match. Tottenham find themselves in the top eight, sitting 7th with 9 points following three wins and one defeat - suffered in the hands of Galatasaray in matchday four. On the other hand, Roma are languishing in 20th place with 5 points from a win, two draws and one loss so far. The Serie A giants will hope that new manager Claudio Ranieri, who has returned following Juric's sacking, will be able to turn their fortunes around.
But Roma's poor form in recent matches will be the least of Postecoglou's worries as the Australian boss has been dealing with an injury crisis. Guglielmo Vicario was the latest addition to Spurs' lenghty injury list as he suffered a blow at the Etihad on Saturday. The goalkeeper fractured his right ankle, but has successfully completed surgery on Tuesday. Richarlison, Romero, Van de Ven, Odobert and Moore are the remaining injury concerns in the squad.
For Ranieri's side, Shomurodov is sidelined due to a muscle injury, while defender Hermoso could be back in the squad after sustaning an injury in a training session at the beginning of the month. Paulo Dybala, who came on in the final minutes in Roma’s 1-0 loss to Napoli, and is now hoping to have an immediate impact against the Premier League side.
Tottenham's possible starting XI (4-2-3-1): Forster (GK); Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Gray; Bergvall, Bentancur; Sarr, Johnson, Solanke; Werner.
Roma's possible starting XI (5-3-2): Svilar (GK); Celik, Mancini, Hummels, Ndicka, Angelino; Konè, Cristante, Pisilli; Dybala, Dovbyk.
