PSG begin another attempt to lift the title they have been seeking for so many years when they kick off their Champions League campaign by hosting Girona at the Parc des Princes in the first matchday of the group stage of the new format.
Luis Enrique's side have their sights set on lifting the European championship as the icing on the cake for Al-Khelaifi's project, something they could have achieved in the 2020 final when they lost to Bayern Munich.
While the Ligue 1 side have been in the race for the UCL title for several years, their opponents in the opening match of the 2024/2025 edition are newcomers, although that does not detract from how difficult it might be for the home side to cope with a team like Girona.
The Catalan side were last season's surprise package in La Liga, rivalling Real Madrid for the title race for much of the campaign until a late slump saw them finish third, four points behind Barcelona, which was enough to qualify for Europe's most prestigious club championship for the first time.
PSG possible starting XI: Safonov (GK); Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Lee, Ruiz, Neves; Dembele, Kolo Muani and Barcola.
Girona possible starting XI: Gazzaniga (GK); Frances, Lopez, Blind, Gutierrez; Martin, Romeu, Solis; Tsygankov, Ruiz and Danjuma.
