Yet another episode in Ruben Semedo's turbulent personal life. Many will remember when he played for Villarreal and ended up in custody for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting someone. Well, this time he has been arrested by the police in Lisbon after allegedly committing a crime of domestic violence.
According to ‘Correio da Manha’, the 30-year-old Portuguese footballer allegedly attacked his partner and held her against her will in their home. After escaping, she filed a complaint with the Public Security Police and was subsequently hospitalised.
The police report states that the woman arrived at the police station "terrified" and with "evident bruises" as a result of this alleged aggression. At around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, the PSP went to the house and proceeded to arrest Ruben Semedo.
At the time of publication of this news, the centre-back is still at the Metropolitan Command of the PSP in the town of Moscavide. On Monday he will be taken to court and may appear before a court to give his explanations about the charges against him.
As we said, in 2018, Ruben Semedo was arrested when he was a Villarreal footballer for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a person in the Valencian town of Bétera. The Portuguese player spent 142 days in custody and had to pay 30,000 euros bail, although all charges against him were later dropped. A few months earlier, at the end of 2017, an employee accused him of having pointed a gun at him in a nightclub.
After that surreal season at Villarreal, the former Sporting CP or Reus player went on to play for Huesca or Rio Ave and seemed to settle at a high level at Olympiacos. His performance in Greece led him to sign for Porto, but after a poor year he left for Qatar, where he played for Al-Duhail and Al-Markhiya. This season he made 15 appearances for Al-Khor, the last one on 7th December, when he beat Al-Duhail and scored one of the team's two goals.
