Olympique Marseille president Pablo Longoria will appear before the French Professional Football League's (LFP) Disciplinary Commission on Wednesday after claiming there was "corruption" in French football following a refereeing incident that he considered detrimental to his team.
"This is a real corruption," the Marseille boss shouted in the corridors of the Auxerre stadium, where his team lost 3-0 and one of his players was sent off.
Longoria claimed that "everything was planned, organised" to damage his team, words that caused a stir in the country, and several club presidents attacked Marseille's president.
The French Football Federation and the referees' association also came down hard on Longoria, who in an interview with the French agency AFP, retracted those words. But it did not prevent him from being called up with a view to a sanction that experts believe will be very harsh.
Longoria's words come in a tense atmosphere in French football, in the midst of a storm over a dispute with the British channel DAZN, which broadcasts eight of the nine matches of each matchday and considers that the contract is broken due to several breaches.
