Vitor Roque has officially returned to his homeland to begin a new chapter in his football career, with Palmeiras. The Sao Paulo side splashed out €25 million to sign the 20-year-old striker after his dream move to Barcelona turned out to be a nightmare.
Roque landed in Catalunya in January of last term with big expectations on his shoulders, but he never got the chance to prove himself under former Barca manager Xavi. Scarce minutes on the pitch saw him joining Real Betis on loan last summer, hoping to revive his career in Spain.
At the Andalusian club, Roque rediscovered his rhythm, with the change of scenery allowing him to regain his confidence. That said, it was not enough to prevent him from leaving European football, finishing off his brief spell with Betis having scored 7 goals in 33 appearances.
But not all is lost for Betis as they have obtained a compensation from Roque's deal for losing him with the market closed. The 'Verdiblancos' receive 30% of Abde's transfer rights, which it held at 50%, thus increasing to 80% of the player's rights, with the other 20% belonging to Barcelona.
Moreover, Palmeiras will pay a share of Roque's salary for the current campaign, an issue that will benefit the Andalusian team financially. The former Paranaense player has put pen to a five-and-a-half year contract with Palmeiras, which will see him stay at the club until December 2030.
