Luis de la Fuente will remain in charge of the Spanish national team until 2028. On Monday, the RFEF made official the contract renewal of the 63-year-old, who won the fourth European Championship in the country's history last summer in Germany.
He will thus remain Spain's coach until Euro 2028, which will be held in the United Kingdom and Ireland. De la Fuente had been linked to Spain until the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2026, but the RFEF wanted to reward the coach's track record, in whom they will continue to have confidence no matter what happens at the World Cup.
It has not been difficult to reach an agreement between the parties. It was expected that this announcement would come sooner, but the complex and judicialised electoral process of the Federation delayed the timing.
Initially, talks began with Pedro Rocha, but they could not materialise until the arrival of Rafael Louzan. The new leadership maintained its full backing for the coach and his renewal was one of the priorities.
Luis de la Fuente began his career at youth level, where he accumulated more than a hundred appearances starting with the U19s in 2013. He won the European Championship in 2015 and the Mediterranean Games in 2018, and added the U21 European Championship in 2019 and a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to his list of honours.
