Ander Herrera is a new Boca Juniors player. The ex-Real Zaragoza, Man United and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has terminated his second-stint at Athletic Club after two-and-a-half seasons to make his debut in the South American league. It is understood that Herrera was happy to cover a secondary role under Ernesto Valverde, but jumped at the occasion to play at the Bombonera.
With the move now formalised, Herrera leaves the top five leagues for the first time in his career minus his one-year spell in the Spanish second tier during the 2008/9 with Real Zaragoza. Negotiations advanced midweek as the player had already expressed his intent to leave after having missed training with the Athletic Club squad on Tuesday.
Herrera has penned a one-year deal with the option for another 12 months with Boca Juniors and is expected to participate in the revamped Club World Cup, where he will take on Bayern Munich, Benfica and Auckland City in the group stages of the tournament. The 35-year-old is now the fourth former Red Devil to join the Argentine side after Ederson Cavani, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero, as reported by 'ESPN'.

Speaking on the anticipated move, Herrera said: “Boca is a giant, special club, with a unique history and passion. Many years ago my father worked here, he talked to me a lot about Boca and I have maintained that passion since I was a child. I have been able to experience La Bombonera as a fan and as a player, I have been told that it is something unique, that it gives you goosebumps".
He added: “I am not nervous. All this makes me very happy and full of expectations. I am very grateful for the affection. Now I will have to earn respect. I am very excited, I am looking forward to playing at La Bombonera. Thank you for this welcome".
