Miguel Almiron is an Atlanta United player once again. The Paraguayan forward has officially left Newcastle United after spending 7 years at St. James' Park to return to the side he had played for during the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons.
"Atalanta United signs Miguel Almirón as a Designated Player from Newcastle United of the English Premier League," reads a statement from the American side.
The deal between the two clubs was sealed once an agreement was reached on a free worth around $12 million before Almiron put pen to a four-and-a-half-year contract with Atlanta - valid until June 2029. The transfer means the Magpies get a chunk of the $27 million they paid for Almiron in 2019.
The 31-year-old has struggled for game time under Eddie Howe this term. Having only featured in 14 matches, he will expect to see more minutes on the pitch in the MLS with Ronny Deila at the helm. Almiron bids farewell to Newcastle after making 223 appearances in all competitions, scoring 30 goals and providing 12 assists.
