"Neuer and Muller? It's not true that legends don't want to improve"

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said of the role expected of the team's veterans such as Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller that "it is false that the legends no longer want to improve".
Speaking at a press conference ahead of his side's friendly against Tottenham in Seoul, South Korea, Kompany insisted that he has "very clear ideas" of what he wants from them, given that both, he said, "are used to working with coaches like that".
"It's interesting for them as well. Legends always want to improve and want to develop. I see them excited and eager to start working with my ideas," he stressed.
Asked about the pre-season matches, the Belgian said that "these games are very important to get the team in shape", but that he expects to see the "mentality of the players".
"Maybe they are not yet physically fit, but I do want to see them with a competitive mentality. The idea is to involve all available players against Tottenham, but in a controlled way," he added.
Kompany revealed that he is "looking forward" to "working on the new signings", believing that "the motivation and energy they bring to this club" will help them "a lot", and that "last season doesn't have to define any player", although "everyone expects a reaction to it".
The former Belgium international concluded that "if I didn't want to win every game, I couldn't be Bayern coach", because no matter how much I change, "that's never going to change".
