Messi is now enjoying a different journey in Miami. He is the leader of a new project that is growing in a league that has gained a lot since his arrival, but Leo Messi does not forget Barcelona. For the 125th anniversary of the club, the Argentine striker spoke to ‘Mundo Deportivo’ in a chat in which he linked this review of the club's history with the affection he has always shown to the team and to Barcelona. He only wishes the best... and a future reunion.
Messi, in his review of the club's history, focused first on the moments that, in his opinion, have been most important for the club: "There were moments that I didn't live through, but I know that they were. The foundation of the club and the construction of Camp Nou. Then, the Cruyff era as a player, the first European Cup at Wembley with him as coach in ‘92. And what I did experience, certainly Pep's time as coach, what Ronaldinho meant in the 2005-06 Champions League, and then the treble with Luis Enrique".
"Of players? It's a club that has always stood out for having the best. From Johan Cruyff, through Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi, the two Luis Suárez, Stoichkov, Pep, Ronaldinho, Rijkaard, Maradona. Although he was not around long, he made a huge impact because of who he is. Koeman, with the goal at Wembley. I also heard about Cesar, Kubala and that striker named by Serrat in his song: Basora, Cesar, Kubala, Moreno and Manchón. And I'm sure I'm forgetting important people," he revealed.
He chose the players who have had the greatest impact on him personally: "I think there are two who have had an impact on me for different reasons. Guardiola, I had him as a coach for many years and we achieved incredible things that we could never have imagined. And Ronaldinho. The way he received me, how he helped me. He helped me a lot in my first moments with the first team. I also remember Iniesta and Xavi a lot as teammates. And the three who play with me here in Miami - Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez - who are also friends. And, of course, a special mention to Tito Vilanova, who we miss.
Finally, Leo Messi was asked to send a message to the ‘Cules’ after such a long time without talking about the club.. "My message to Barça fans? I miss you a lot. I hope we can meet again soon. I hope you feel proud of being part of the best club in the world," he said.
