Fenerbahce's Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for his “unsportsmanlike conduct” in the 'Clasico' against Galatasaray and for his “insulting comments” in the press conference afterwards, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced Tuesday.
If Mourinho is found guilty, he could receive a fine and a maximum suspension of 6 months. In the same statement, the TFF reported that Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk and several members of the coaching staff of both teams were also referred to the disciplinary body.
In addition, Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi, who did not play due to injury and watched the match from the stands, was included in the list for “violation of regulations”, although without precautionary measures.
Galatasaray had already announced that it will file official complaints with UEFA and FIFA against Mourinho, accusing him of racism, a complaint that Fenerbahce described as “unfounded” and “absurd”.
Galatasaray's decision comes in response to Mourinho's comments after the 0-0 draw, in which he claimed that opposing players “jumped like monkeys” on the bench to protest a refereeing decision.
For the first time in 55 years, a Turkish League match was refereed by a foreign referee, Slovenian Slavko Vincic, due to complaints about local refereeing and at the request of Fenerbahçe.
After the match, Mourinho went to the referee's dressing room to congratulate him. For his part, Okan Buruk criticised the refereeing decisions and Mourinho's extensive monologue at the press conference, referring to him as “The crying one”.
"The crying one'... He is famous for crying. He went to the referee's room and cried. Let him cry.... You don't do that. I can't believe he humiliated Turkish referees so much this season and it's something I condemn,” Buruk said.
