Maresca insists Jorgensen still Chelsea's No. 1 goalkeeper despite Villa blunder

Enzo Maresa said that Filip Jorgensen's position as Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper is safe despite his blunder in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa. The Dane was at fault for Asensio's last-gasp winning goal, marking the Blues' latest goalkeeping calamity this term after Jorgensen replaced the even more error-prone Robert Sanchez.
The Italy international was sympathetic to Jorgensen's error, insisting that the team should stick up for their shot-stopper after the blow. "The keeper position is very difficult. When you make a mistake is clear for everyone. Today Filip made a mistake but at this moment he is our keeper and we need to stick together," he said on Saturday after the full whistle.
Ahead of Tuesday's Premier League fixture against bottom-of-the-table Southampton, Maresca was asked if he had reconsidered his decision on Jorgensen as the No. 1 keeper. “If we have to change players every time they make a mistake then we’ll need to change every game. But no, nothing's changed," he said during a press conference on Monday.
Speaking on how the 22-year-old was feeling after his shocker, the former Leicester boss added: “He is okay. He feels a little bit sad and upset because he recognises it was a mistake but overall he is okay. I don't know. At this moment, it is not today's mistake that I am going to change my mind about Filip at this moment. We will see.
“The keeper position is a delicate one. The striker can miss the goal and sometimes it doesn't look so important but when the keeper makes a mistake, it's always clear. We need to support each other, stay strong and work hard. In two days, we have one more game at home and hopefully, we can finally win in front of our fans.”
