Maresca clarifies Nkunku's optimal role at Chelsea

Chelsea's top scorer this season, Christopher Nkunku, has found himself in various positions on the pitch, but manager Enzo Maresca believes the Frenchman's best role is as a number 10 behind the striker. Despite Nkunku's impressive tally of 10 goals, with six coming in European competitions, his Premier League appearances have been limited.
Maresca praised Nkunku's pre-season performance, attributing it to the player operating in his preferred position between the lines. The manager acknowledged that Nkunku has often been deployed as a striker or winger this season, positions that are not his strongest.
However, Maresca explained that the presence of Cole Palmer in the number 10 role makes it challenging to accommodate both players simultaneously without compromising team balance. The Italian tactician emphasised the need for tactical flexibility, noting that game plans may vary depending on the opposition.
Maresca further emphasised the importance of Nkunku's contributions to the team, stating, "Every player has a vital role in our squad, and Christo's ability to score and create opportunities is invaluable." As Chelsea prepares for their upcoming fixtures, the manager remains focused on finding the right balance to maximise the talents of all his players, including Nkunku.
