Gavi assured on Wednesday, after qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey with a 5-1 victory over Betis, that his Uruguayan teammate Ronald Araujo “wants to stay at Barcelona” and expressed his confidence that he will continue at the club. “The 'Cules' have to be calm. Many journalists make things up. In the press, many things come out that are lies. Araujo wants to stay at Barca and I trust that he will stay. I trust that Araujo has always wanted to stay,” explained the Andalusian player in the mixed zone of the Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys.
Gavi responded that he “doesn't care” if, in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey, they have to face Real Madrid because Barca's intention is to “always go to win”. “Our goal is to win as many titles as possible,” he remarked. Asked about the position in which, lately, coach Hansi Flick places him, closer to the forwards, the Spanish international admitted that he feels “comfortable”, but also recalled that he can “play in several positions in the midfield” depending on “what the coach decides”.
“I'm here for whatever he and the team need,” he added. Gavi. He also explained that, in the first half, he received a blow to his left knee which, in the end, remained “nothing” beyond the impact and was “happy” about the fact that he has scored 2 goals in the last 3 games.
“I don't set myself a specific number of goals as a target. The most important thing is the team's victories and, if I can score, all the better”, stressed the Barcelona player. Finally, Gavi said that Barca's slump in the months of November and December “was not because of the game, but because the ball was not finding the net”. “We deserved to win all the games in which we lost points. We have to do as we did today: score goals, be calm and enjoy ourselves,” he concluded.
