Txiki Begiristain, who is still director of football at Manchester City, won the award for the best manager in the European leagues on Wednesday at the Golden Boy, an award organised by Tuttosport newspaper.
Begiristain, who will leave City at the end of the season after 12 years at the English club, has been instrumental in the team's growth and expansion since 2012.
The manager reached, alongside Pep Guardiola, the highest heights of a team that is now at its worst with a lawsuit in progress over financial irregularities and five straight games without a win - the latest on Tuesday when beating Feyenoord 3-0 in the Champions League at home at the Etihad Stadium.
Also honoured were Antonio Percassi as best president of the year - in charge of unstoppable Europa League champions Atalanta - and Jorge Mendes as the best player agent.
