Bayern Munich surprised everyone by getting Joao Cancelo in for free. The Bavarian side will be able to enjoy the Portuguese man's services until the end of the season and than have the chance to sign him for €70 million.
However, the ex-Juventus and Valencia player was always being followed by Real Madrid, who know they'll have to improve their defense and look for competition for Dani Carvajal. What's more, the Spanish side tried to get the Portuguese defender on board at the last minute.
Before the player left Manchester City, the side from the Spanish capital made the English side an offer of €30 million plus €20 million more in add-ons, which the Manchester side rejected, as they were asking for €70 million minimum, according to 'The Athletic'.
It's a figure which made the negoations fall through between the two sides and one that the German side will pay at the end of the season if they want to get the Portuguese man on board, as he is already playing well there.
