Lyon president Textor in cowboy mode to fire back at PSG's Al Khelaifi

Lyon president Textor walked onto the pitch with a cowboy hat ahead of the 3-2 defeat to league leaders PSG to taunt the Parisian club's chairman Al Khelaifi after the two came together in an altercation last July.

The week leading up to the Ligue 1 showdown between Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain was filled with non-football-related talk as reports emerged that the two clubs' presidents Joan Textor and Nasser Al Khelaifi had come together in an altercation. It is understood that during a meeting over TV rights for the league in July, Olympique Lyonnais chairman Textor had called the Qatar international a "tyrant", with the latter then firing back at the American and naming him a "cowboy from nowhere".
Despite months from that encounter, Textor did not pass up the opportunity to taunt the Al Khelaifi as he showed up at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday with a cowboy hat on and walked onto the pitch to greet the supporters before kick-off. The majority owner of 'Eagle Football Holdings Limited' - the leading shareholder of Premier League side Crystal Palace - further mocked the PSG president as he included western-themed adverts on the big screens during the pre-match.
After the full-time whistle, Textor said he had no intention of mocking Al Khelaifi, who was not in attendance at the stadium, insisting that he only wore the hat because he felt "confident". However, with PSG claiming a 2-3 win over 'Les Gones', the American businessman admitted that he no longer felt that way as he said: "I wore the hat because I felt confident but now (after the match) I don't feel like a cowboy. I don't even know how to ride a horse".
"I had a big dispute with him (Al Khelaifi) over TV rights. I didn't even know that he had called me a cowboy. My only hope is that every club complies with European law. From that perspective, I'm not fighting for Lyon but for the league. I don't have anything personal against him. He knows he can call me anytime. Everyone in the league has to follow the same rules. And we also cannot have the same title winner for 20 years straight. It's not possible."
