Everton are on the brink of completing their first signing of the David Moyes era following the departure of Sean Dyches. According to Santi Aouna, Ernest Nuamah is set to join the Toffees from Olympique Lyonnais as an agreement has almost been reached between the parties involved.
Nuamah was involved in a transfer saga with Everton last summer, which stirred considerable discussion. The Ghanian had agreed on terms to arrive at Goodison Park, but things suddenly shifted when Marco Silva's Fulham jumped in with an £18m offer to replace Willian. Nevertheless, a late change of heart led the player to stay at Lyon.
However, the 21-year-old's decision to stay in France did not pay off as he was reportedly urged to leave by club president John Textor due to the club's critical financial situation. Lyon have been provisionally relegated to Ligue 2 by the DNCG - the National Board of Control and Management of French Football - due to excessive debt.
Nuamah's move to the Premier League could come true after all. Despite the controversies, Everton reignited the move after failing to seal the deal for Aston Villa’s Jaden Philogene, who is now closing on a £20million transfer to Ipswich Town. Nuamah has only one goal and one assist in 16 appearances for Lyon this season.
