Liverpool retire number 20 in honour of Diogo Jota

Liverpool have decided to retire Diogo Jota's number 20 shirt for good, following the tragic death of the Portuguese player in a road accident in Zamora.

The football world continues to be shocked by the tragic deaths of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva in a traffic accident in the early hours from Wednesday 2 July to Thursday 3 July. Numerous expressions of affection have been made public since the news broke, from teammates to rivals, including their own club.
One of them has been Liverpool, who are still in a state of shock. The Reds announced through their social networks that they are going to retire the number 20 worn by the Portuguese player.
"The number 20 will be immortalised for his contributions to Liverpool's 2024-25 league title - the club's 20th - with his trademark and his goal against The Kop that sealed victory in April's Merseyside derby, the poignant last goal of his career," Liverpool announced on social media.
There are many people who have wanted to say goodbye to Diogo Jota while the causes of the accident that took his life and that of his brother Andre Silva are still being investigated.
