Although Liverpool created the clearest chances in the first 45 minutes, Real Madrid's defence was immaculate but they had no goalscoring flair. However, everything changed in the second period when Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring in the 52nd minute to fire the Reds ahead but it all looked like a restarted game when Lucas Vazquez earned a penalty for his side after a Robertson foul. But Kelleher managed to stop Mbappe's attempt from the spot. There was also a missed spot-kick for the hosts when Salah sent a great chance wide but Gakpo, who came on as a substitute, made it two with a superb header to seal victory for his side at Anfield.
