RB Leipzig have announced that Xavi Simons has suffered an injury to his ankle in the Champions League clash against Liverpool on Wednesday. The midfielder was forced off the pitch at the 78th minute and is now expected to face several weeks on the sidelines as a result.
The confirmation arrived from the club on Thursday via a post on their official X account. "Xavi Simons suffered a ligament injury in his left ankle during yesterday's Champions League game against Liverpool FC and will therefore be sidelined for several weeks," stated the club.
The German side have also revealed that "a decision on how to treat the injury is yet to be made", while also wishing their player a quick recovery from the injury. The injury news comes at a bad time for Leipzig, who face a demanding calendar, as they also look to maintain they're positive start to the Bundesliga.
Xavi Simons will miss out on upcoming league clashes against Freiburg - who sit third n the Bundesliga - and Dortmund. He is also set to miss the ties against Celtic and Inter in the Champions League, which could be costly given that Marco Rose's men are yet to score any points in the tournament and risk being eliminated.
