Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has officially said goodbye to Napoli ahead of his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. The deal was sealed once an agreement was reached between the two clubs for a deal worth €70million as the player expressed his wish to leave the club.
Napoli boss Antonio Conte was the one who broke the news, as he said: "Kvara has asked the club to be sold... I spoke to the player and he confirmed his decision. I'm very disappointed. It's been six months that I've been trying to make him feel at the heart of our project.... Obviously, I didn't do enough to convince him".
Nonetheless, Kvaratskhelia, who is due to fly to Paris on Friday, showed his gratitude to the club, fans and city that welcomed him with open arms and made him explode on the international scale, as he shared a heartfelt message via his socials on Thursday.
“Dear Napoli fans, it’s hard for me, but it’s time to say goodbye. I had an amazing time here, we shared a lot of memories together and experienced a lot of amazing emotions. Naples was my home, where I felt wonderful thanks to each of you. The path we went through together is still in my mind and it is very emotional. I remember my first goal and feelings that I will never forget. My first steps in this stadium, were your keen emotions, your cheers and your energy which have always been special, both at home and away.
Naples is a football city, Naples lives with football, and I am happy to have a part of this great history. I learned a lot here, both on and off the pitch. I grew as a person and as a player. It was a great honour for me to wear this jersey.
I would like to thank everyone who works at the club. I would like to thank the coaches, each member of staff, my teammates and the fans. I say goodbye, but you will always be in my heart, and I hope we will meet again. I know that your heart is very broken, but one day I will tell you everything. I want to wish you success, to give this city, and these people the Scudetto.
For the last time as a Napoli player, before leaving, I deeply longed to take this step. This place, every single moment, and every chant from fans have now become memories that I will always carry with me and remember often. I arrived here as a young lad that only a few knew and now I leave this place as a man, taking with me the love of so many people, many victories and, above all, that longed-for Scudetto, the title of champion that this city has dreamed of for so many years.
I wanted to come here before I left because this is a special place (the Maradona mural). Here you feel more intensely than anywhere else what Diego means to this city. They love him here more than anywhere else. Diego lives in the heart of every Neapolitan and always will. This place has a unique energy and strength. Naples and Diego live for each other. Diego is the God of football and this is felt most strongly in this city. Being here now is particularly emotional. I have to say goodbye to the fans, the team, the city and also Diego. Goodbye, Diego, and goodbye Napoli.
I came here in Naples alone but now there are three of us. Naples is a fascinating city, it seems like every place has its own story to tell and manages to make you feel it. The people are very warm and, in my opinion, they are a lot like us Georgians. We feel quite close, it is probably also because of this that I got used to and attached to this place so easily. Thank you, Naples".
