Steven Bergwijn's words released ealier today in response to Ronald Koeman were not enough to shake the manager off his stance. The Dutch national team's coach has come forward to 'NOS' reacting to Bergwijn's interview and stating that his view has in fact not changed.
"It’s logical that Steven Bergwijn reacts to my words on his move to Saudi. But I stick to my words!”.
The newly-announced Al-Ittihad player assures the competitiveness of the Saudi Pro League outdoes that of the Eredivise, and indicates sporting ambition as a driving factor in his decision to leave Ajax. However, Koeman denies this as he firmly believes that "going to Saudi at 26… it’s not a transfer based on the sporting aspect”.
As the situation continues to unfold, the idea of Bergwijn returning to the Netherlands squad under Koeman seems far from likely.
