Bologna were last season's revelation not only in Serie A but also on the European stage as they reached qualification in the Champions League for the first time since 1964 with Thiago Motta at the helm. But after an outstanding season with the 'Rossoblu', the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder jumped ships to join Juventus and is now set to face his former side this Saturday evening.
Despite Motta's departure, Bologna are nonetheless in contention for the European places under new boss Vincenzo Italiano. The team currently sit in 8th place with 22 points - five behind Juventus in 6th with a game in hand - after five wins, six draws and only two defeats this season.
"Bologna are in looking good right now, they are a great team that play direct and press a lot. We have to concentrate because their high-intensity play could hurt us. I have spent two wonderful years at Bologna, both on a personal and sporting level," Motta said during his pre-match press conference.
Juventus, who are enduring a rollercoaster season under Motta, will have their main man upfront Dusan Vlahovic for the clash. The Serbian striker suffered an injury whilst on international duty last month and has missed three games - Milan, Lecce and Aston Villa - for the 'Bianconeri' since. The medical department at the Turin club has been quite full in recent weeks - eight major injuries - but has now been alleviated with the return of their No. 9.
