Barcelona's Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araujo has expressed his satisfaction with the "good" league phase of the Champions League completed by the 'Cules' team, which will play in the round of 16 as the second-placed team after drawing against Atalanta (2-2) at the Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys.
“It was a very nice game for the people watching. We wanted first place, but it wasn't possible. I'm happy because we had a good first phase of the Champions League,” he said in statements to ‘Movistar Liga de Campeones’.
Araujo, scorer of Barcelona's second goal against the 'Dea', regretted that his team could not take the three points - “we were close”, he said - and finish the first phase as leaders after Liverpool's defeat against PSV Eindhoven (3-2).
When asked if Barca are favourites to win the Champions League, Araujo was cautious: “We have a great team, but we have to be humble and go game by game”.
The Uruguayan center-back, who a few days ago extended his contract with the Catalan side club until 2031, acknowledged feeling “very happy” about his renewal. “If it depends on me, I'm sure I'll be here for a long time,” he concluded.
