A month is a long time in football. At the beginning of November, Sporting Lisbon thrashed Manchester City in the 4th round of the Champions League with a hat trick by Viktor Gyokeres. Now, four weeks later, a Portuguese newspaper, 'Correio da Manha', claims that he has started to feel some dissatisfaction with the team's recent results, which are 3 consecutive defeats.
The first one came against Arsenal in the Champions League, where Mikel Arteta's team won 1-5 as visitors. In the other two, Santa Clara surprised the 'Lions' by 0-1, as did Moreirense, who won 2-1. According to the source mentioned in the previous paragraph, the striker expressed his resentment with this decline within the dressing room and the vibes were so negative that they increased the chances of him leaving the club.
The newspaper, in fact, points out that Barcelona is interested in signing him as Robert Lewandowski's replacement. The Pole is contracted until June 30th, 2026, when his age will be 37 years very close to 38 - his date of birth is August 21st -, so the alternative makes sense because the Swede, who is 26 years old, has a longer career ahead of him. A convincing figure would have to be paid, however: he is tied to his current project until 2028.
Viktor Gyokeres has also been a target for Manchester United under Rubem Amorim, the coach who brought his best form to Sporting CP. Last season, he scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists in 50 games. This season, he has 25 goals and 4 assists in 22 appearances to his name, suggesting that, if he keeps up this pace, he will surpass himself.
