Rudi Garcia began the season as Napoli coach, was replaced by Walter Mazzarri in November and now, in February, president Aurelio di Laurentiis is about to make the second change of the campaign in the dugout. Francesco Calzona, the Slovakia coach who took over just after leaving Luciano Spalletti's coaching staff during his time at Diego Armando Maradona, has been chosen.
Matteo Moretto reports that the coach will land in Italy on Tuesday to sign his contract as 'Azzurri', which will imply a continuity with the style of play of the coach who broke his promise, released his contract with the Italian club to supposedly take a sabbatical year and ended up accepting an offer from the Italian Federation to lead his national team to this year's European Championship in Germany.
Victor Osimhen, Khvicha Kvarastkhelia and Co.'s side drew 1-1 against Genoa at the weekend and disappointed their board, who have had no qualms about working for a revamp of their style of play even though the Champions League last-16 first leg against Barcelona is just around the corner. Perhaps this will be good for Xavi Hernandez's side, whose opponents will be in the process of adapting to a different model.
Francesco Calzona has been given the green light by the Slovakian national team to continue in his post while he is also coach of Napoli, which is quite remarkable given the urgency of the Italian club situation. In the past, he has been assistant coach at Perugia, Alessandria, Sorrento, Empoli and Cagliari, so he has plenty of experience in Calcio even if he is not a familiar face to the cameras.
