The Super League has suffered another blow. The European Union supported FIFA and UEFA's sanctions if Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus go ahead with the idea. The European Leagues (EPFL) said they welcomed this announcement.
"Although the conclusions published are not binding, the EPFL trust the judges of the European Courts of Justice when they publish their final verdict in the next few months. The Leagues support the current model of the footballing pyramid, which maintains the link between professional and grass-roots football", they said.
In their opinion, the judge for the case's decision "protects the fundamental values of the pyramid system, such as the competitions being open for all and being able to qualify for international tournaments through yearly performances".
"Professional football clubs moving forward positively depends on the co-existence and balance of national leagues and European club competitions", they released in a statement, after the European Courts of Justice's lawyer concluded there is no example of UEFA or FIFA abusing their position of authority to prevent the creation of the Super League which Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus all support.
