On Wednesday, Manchester United defeated Ipswich Town 3-2 at Old Trafford, and defender Matthijs de Ligt was a major contributor to the win. After 26 minutes, the Dutch centre-back gave his team a 2-1 lead with the second goal, his first at Old Trafford.
Reflecting on the match, De Ligt described it as a "hard-fought win", emphasising the team's resilience after being reduced to ten men in the second half.
"I think as you said in the second half with ten men, (we were) fighting and even scoring is a really good achievement from us in that second half," de Ligt stated, highlighting the team's determination.
The 25-year-old acknowledged the challenges he faced during the match, noting that despite conceding "two silly goals", the team's performance showed improvement.
De Ligt's goal proved crucial in a game in which United overcame early defensive errors, including a mix-up between Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana that allowed the Tractor Boys to take the lead.
