Back to where it all started as Neymar seems destined to return to his boyhood club. According to the latest reports from Cesar Luis Merlo, the Brazilian star is set for a sensational return to Santos FC, 11 years after departing to go to Barcelona.
Neymar has reportedly reached an agreement with Santos, and is now reportedly working to terminate his current contract - valid until June 2025 - with Al Hilal less than two years after joining them. The former PSG forward, who has endured a hellish time in the Middle East, had made his comeback following a year on the sidelines due to an ACL tear. However, a fresh injury blow in his latest game, has now put him under scrutiny in Saudi Arabia.
The plan is said to be for the Santos, who will be back to the top tier of Brazilian football next season, to announce Neymar's return at the end of the current campaign. Reports initially indicated a move to Palmeiras, but club president Leila was quick to shut down talks as she said: "Neymar will not join Palmeiras, this club isn't a medical department," and then added: "Great player, but he's going to Santos."
With everything pointing towards a return to the 'Peixe', Neymar is set to increase his goal contribution and appearance tallies with the club. Between 2009 and 2013, the all-time Brazilian top scorer netted 124 goals in 223 games for Santos. In 2011, Neymar also won the historic Copa Libertadores with Santos.
