Brazil will host Peru on October 15th at the Mane Garrincha National Stadium in Brasilia at 21:45 local time (0:45 GMT) in the 10th matchday of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced on Tuesday.
The ‘Selecao’ fans in the Brazilian capital will have the opportunity to support their national team for the first time in five years. The last time Brazil played a match at the National Stadium in Brasilia was in 2021, when they beat Venezuela 3-0, but did so without a crowd due to restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their last game with a home crowd in the capital was in 2019 when, for that year's Copa America, they beat Qatar 2-0. According to the CBF, which thanked the Brasilia authorities and stadium administrators for their support, "the city meets all the requirements for the match, including the high-quality training centres, the hotel network and one of the best air networks to serve fans and delegations".
Five days before hosting Peru, Brazil will visit Chile in the ninth round of the South American qualifiers. In the previous FIFA window, Brazil will host Ecuador at the Couto Pereira stadium in the city of Curitiba on 6th September for matchday seven and four days later they will visit Paraguay in Asunción for matchday eight.
Later this month, Brazil coach Dorival Junior will announce his squad for the matches with Ecuador and Paraguay. All four games will be crucial to Brazil's 2026 World Cup dreams as the Canarinha, in one of their worst footballing crises, currently sit sixth in the South American qualifying standings with just seven points from six games.
In their last three qualifiers under sacked coach Fernando Diniz, Brazil suffered defeats to Uruguay, Colombia and Argentina.
