Southampton confirmed on Monday the loan move of Chilean striker Ben Brereton Diaz to Sheffield United. The Chilean returns to the club where he spent the second half of last season on loan, scoring six goals in 16 appearances. After this successful spell, Villarreal sold him to Southampton for 8.3 million euros but, with the Saints, he has not scored a goal in 13 games in all competitions.
After 22 Premier League games, Southampton are bottom of the Premier League with 6 points. Brereton Diaz arrives at Sheffield United, who are second in the Championship and fighting for a direct return to the English top flight. "He's a player I've admired for a long time," Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told the BBC.
"Ben will be an important player for us in the second half of the season. In a tough campaign, he was great for us last season and we would have loved to have kept him but the Southampton move was too good to turn down."
