Florian Wirtz, who was instrumental in Leverkusen's domestic double under Xabi Alonso last season, has long been a target for Manchester City. The Premier League champions had been seen as the frontrunners to secure his transfer, with the potential inclusion of James McAtee in a swap deal.
However, Bayern Munich have now officially entered the competition. Rummenigge, a supervisory board member at the club, revealed their interest in the player, describing Wirtz as "the best player in Germany" and stating that Bayern's goal is to bring him to the club.
Speaking to AZ, Rummenigge emphasized, "It must clearly be our goal to sign Wirtz," adding that the player aligns perfectly with Bayern Munich's vision. "He is exactly the player we want. Not to weaken Leverkusen, but to strengthen us."
